CHD Awareness week: Day 6: Warrior Big day of clinic for Case! Not our best clinic but not the worst. His aortic root was quite enlarged last time and he has seemed to of grown into that a bit So that was a plus! His aortic valve is still quite leaky and worsening. We can see the backflow of blood during the echo and Dr. Ayres also showed us. His heart function, despite this is still great, a good squeeze when it pumps and not enlarged. So, they’ll wait until he shows more signs before intervention. He is still tiring easily, and looses breath quickly but that’s just from his heart working harder to pump. They’ll push repairing his valve as long as they can. He did great during the echo and clinic, it was a long morning (3 hours in clinic) and a long day. I’m so proud of him ❤️💙 Dr. Ayres said she is STILL amazing that Dr. Fraser was able to do a Switch on Case AND that we are going on year 4 of his heart not needing intervention. She still says she can not medically explain this!! We love TCH and Case’s team and are so thankful for the hard work they put into each day, each case and each patient. I have witnessed two people I know personally bury their children almost exactly a year apart. Both passing away from a Congenital Heart Defect. It could easily be us, and it still can be. CHD awareness week: Day 4: Strength I've now come to my computer four or five times to sit down and write this post. Gosh, words are hard. How do I summarize the strength and courage I see in my four year old little boy? How do I put into words the tenacity and fight that I've witnessed so many of our CHD friends go through? How do I describe the magnitude of bravery I see in the eyes of my friends that will spend the rest of their lives loving someone we can no longer see? I can't. I could try, but nothing I can even try to come up with will do it justice. So instead, I can say their names, WE can shout their worth. We can raise awareness, we can tell their stories, we can remember.
